Biography
Dr. Stevens’ unwavering desire is to build bridges between education, research and practice for excellence. Dr. Stevens has been a nurse scientist and educator since 1973. This long-standing devotion to research application has positioned her as one of today’s top experts in evidence-based practice. She is a professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas and has a funded program of research that emphasizes evidence-based quality improvement and patient safety through knowledge transformation, workforce preparation including instrument development research, and workforce engagement in evidence-based quality improvement. She has been part of multidisciplinary investigative teams examining occupational exposure of health professionals to hazardous work environments. She also the NIH funded Improvement Science Research Network and guides development of research collaboratives among the Network’s members. She has published dozens of peer-reviewed articles and presented her research widely.
